Choosing a perfect venue for your wedding day can be plenty of fun but where do you start?

Below are a selection of wedding venues that I have personally photographed at. A venue should not only be picturesque (perhaps just a little bit important for your photographs!) but there should also be an amazing team behind the scenes who help to organise the day and make it go smoothly for you. Here are a few of my favourites:

This has to be THE premier top notch wedding venue in North Devon. No expense has been spared in creating what is a beautiful building in what is arguably the most stunning of settings. On a sunny day you can get married outside in front of your friends and family and then go for a stroll on the beach afterwards - what could be better? The team are amazing and the food is superb. This place gets booked up far in advance so be sure to get in quick if you like the look of it.

Some venues are REALLY special, not just because they are a historic and stunningly beautiful place but because of the people who are running them. Laura & Jake Peryer are so welcoming and friendly and really want your big day to be a success! Nothing is too much bother for them and they really love what they do. The building is absolutely the perfect venue to have friends and family come together to share in your celebrations.

Have you ever wanted the place to yourself? This is the beauty of Beaconside House, you can book the whole venue, which includes plenty of accommodation - it'll be yours for the duration to your celebrations. There are two swimming pools, plenty of outside space for kids to run, hot tubs and plenty of different places to tie the knot whether outside or in (which is why you are there don't forget!). This venue could be the perfect place for big families who want to stay together and have a big weekend of it!

This is a very popular venue, and it's not hard to see why! You get the best of both worlds, outdoors you have Westward Ho! (can't really say more!) and inside you have a big room to party with an unrivalled view. The Bay Suite inside is the perfect place for a large crowd and Pete who organises weddings there is a pleasure to work alongside. He will know the plan of your day and work with you to make the day memorable for you and your guests.

Ocean Kave has the sea views (as the name suggests) but also it has seclusion away from the rest of the world. Set at the end of a countryside track you really get the feeling you're the only people there (and you are). It's situated near to the South West Coast Path, so it's ideal for a short stroll to get some amazing photographs. The cave itself is unique and a cosy space if the weather outside is a bit nippy. For the reception you can go to the sunset room which looks out over the bay!

Hallsannery is a big house steeped in history. Set in the countryside just outside of Bideford it is a warm and welcoming house just perfect for wedding celebrations with room for friends and family to stay over. The beauty of this place is that you can get caterers in to do the food you want rather than being limited by a hotel or venues own menu. There is plenty of space for your guests to relax and enjoy the day with plenty of lounges and outside space.

Sandy Cove Hotel recently invested in a fresh new wedding venue making full use of that amazing view! The Venue is a special place, perfect for couples to tie the knot and have a full celebration afterwards. As always, the food at the hotel is amazing and with a window into the kitchen you can (if you want) watch them prepare your meal, although you'll be too busy chatting to your aunt Mabel to notice! With everything under one roof it's a very easy option and the view is absolutely stunning.
